Genetically modified labelling of soya foods.
From 1 April 2023, the voluntary labelling system was amended to ensure that information on genetic modification is accurately communicated.
If unintentional contamination is within 5% after segregated production and distribution management, it was previously possible to label as ‘not genetically modified’ or ‘segregated non-genetically modified’, etc. Under the new labelling system, two options are available: (1) label that the product is an agricultural product that has been properly segregated for production and distribution management, or (2) do not label, and the system is in operation. The new labelling system operates with the following two options.

If genetically modified agricultural products are not used, labels such as ‘not genetically modified’ may be used.
The conditions for labelling ‘non-genetically modified’ have been changed for soya and corn and processed foods made from them since 1 April 2023, when the new system came into effect.
